Aim
We need to share some compassion and bring the BillyChip a safe, secure currency for the homeless to more communities across the UK
The BillyChip®️ Foundation registered charity 1188779 was set up by Billy's sister Meg in 2020 to continue the legacy of Billy Abernethy-Hope a twenty year old ambulance driver from Bristol. He was the inspiration and idea behind the BillyChip Scheme.
BillyChip is a token purchased from coffee shops, takeaways, and restaurants for £2, (that’s cheaper than a cup of coffee in most places). The token can be given to a rough sleeper or homeless person instead of cash, safeguarding your donation. That BillyChip can be redeemed in any participating outlet for a free takeaway drink of their choice (not alcohol) many outlets will choose to offer more. BillyChip empowers people to get sustenance to meet their dietary needs (Gluten free, lactose free, vegan etc) at a time and place convenient to them.
Not only does purchasing a BillyChip ensure your support feeds a person instead of a habit it also makes helping people in our community easier as very few people carry cash these days. It is a known fact that not everyone posing as a rough sleeper is homeless and many people have concerns when handing over money as to the legitimacy of the situation.
BillyChip has been supported by many Celebrities, Sports Stars, Police forces and charities around the UK. Areas operating the scheme have witnessed improved relationships within the community and reductions in crime, nuisance begging, anti-social behaviour and organised criminal gangs.
Every time someone buys a BillyChip a proportion of that £2 goes towards supporting local homeless projects and charities in your area. To date the foundation has supported such causes such as StreetVet and Suicide Prevention. We are also planning to provide some living accommodation in partnership with Help Bristol's Homeless reg.1181386
Operating this scheme is totally free and we pay the outlets for the drinks they provide against a redeemed chip. Lets get this into every town and city across the UK.
