We want to record our self-titled debut album, in July 2022.
So, I had hoped to completely fund the recording of the new Temple of Shibboleth album myself, but having Covid in April has left me with less funds than hoped.
This jolly crowdfunder has been launched in the hope that dear Shibboleth's dream can come true of being made real on vinyl!
The studio is booked and a great producer is lined up. We just need some extra funds to pay for studio time and our wonderful musicians - Viv Goodwin-Darke, Roz Harding, Anna Batson and Emma Holbrook. Any extra proceeds will go towards paying our producer, George Shilling (who has worked with Blur/Primal Scream/James Brown to name a few) and vinyl production costs. The studio is booked and a great producer is lined up. The project:
Borne out of lockdown necessity, The Temple of Shibboleth started life when Billie Bottle ran away from the circus in 2020, and started caring for a wise woman in Ottery St Mary, Devon. Here, she was taught the ancient art of traditional housekeeping, where each day of the week has a particular purpose and function: this became invaluable in navigating our seemingly eternal state of lockdown.
Eventually, this path became a social media group, a pilgrimage in deeper time, a support network, a living piece of music, and now emerging from lockdown, a four-piece band!
The Temple of Shibboleth incorporate a scintillating blend of prog, jazz and pop sensibilities, always with a sense of mythic ritual. The line-up features Billie Bottle on piano, guitar, bass and vocals, Viv Goodwin-Darke on flute and vocals (The Invisible Opera Company of Tibet/Magic Bus), Roz Harding on alto sax and vocals (Mike Westbrook bands) and Anna Batson on bassoon and vocals (an engaging singer/songwriter in her own right).
The album tells the story of Shibboleth's path through the week and fuses our original lockdown demos with the improvisational qualities of the live band. After the mixing & mastering stages and the artwork is complete (Sep/Oct 22), it will be pressed into a beautiful double vinyl album with gatefold sleeve, and also available as a digital download from our bandcamp.
Please support our crowdfunder to make this project happen and Shibboleth with whinny with delight!
