Bikes for the Community

Aim

Our project will help people in Bristol access affordable bikes and use sustainable, zero emissions transport in their daily lives.

We are Life Cycle - a Bristol based charity with a mission to transform lives and the environment through cycling. We help people unlock the environmental, financial, and wellbeing benefits of cycling – whatever their background.

Your support today will help us get people cycling - all while supporting our social impact projects and boosting sustainable transport in Bristol. With your help we will recycle 20 bikes through our in prison bike workshop – saving tonnes of metal from landfill, cutting cardon emissions from travel and lifting people out of transport poverty.

You are helping promote sustainable thriving and connected communities by:

1) Reducing travel related carbon emissions: Each person who learns to cycle or receives one of our recycled bikes is empowered to use green transport instead of fossil fuel alternatives. Each bike recycled saves the emissions of manufacturing a new one. And in the bike's first year of use, traveling by bike instead of car will save on average 150kg CO2e from being emitted. That’s 3000 kg CO2e from 20 bikes!

2) Saving metal from landfill: Our bikes are recycled through our in-prison bike workshop where prisoners learn new skills and gain professional standard bike mechanic qualifications. On average each bike recycled saves 15.2 kg of metal from landfill. From 20 bikes that’s 304 kg of metal!

3) Empowering climate action: Sustainable transport is often a privilege. By helping us make cycling affordable for 20 people, your support will inspire a practical climate solution that also tackles health and poverty.
