Biggar Hogmanay Bonfire is a unique community event.
For generations, the people of Biggar have gathered with friends old and new to see in the New Year and ‘burn out the old, burn in the new'.
Changes to the way events are controlled by South Lanarkshire Council means that costs for insurance, traffic management and first aid are now all the responsibility of Biggar Community Council. The minimum cost to run the Bonfire each year is approximately £8500, costs which cannot be sustained by the Council alone and are likely to rise year on year.
The Council have been successful in previous grant funding applications and these funds, along with fund-raising activities and £2287 of generous donations from our supporters, will mean the Bonfire keeps burning in 2024.
However, we need your help to build up the community ‘fighting fund' that will help protect the Bonfire in the years to come. We fully appreciate that times are hard for everyone. Any donation you can make, big or small, will make a difference.
