To raise £350 to hold a reading and workshop to develop my play 'Big Man Little Man'
Being a teenager is hard. But being a teenager with special needs can be even harder.
I have worked in special needs education for over 10 years and have seen some amazing and tragic things. This was the inspiration behind the play I am developing.
Big Man Little Man is a new play that follows the schooling of an SEND child Tony. On top of diverse needs, he struggles with the everyday issues that teenagers face. He tries to navigate his way through school, teenage angst, dating and life, but struggles to find his way, will Tony find his way? Will he become the man he wants to be?
Big Man Little Man is aiming to open the doors behind send schooling, send stereotypes but also some of the issues then boys are facing in the modern world.
I am setting up this crowdfunder so that I can continue to develop this piece of work. The script is in its development stage and needs the help of you so that I can develop it further. Due to the personal nature of the plot of this story and 3 years I have been working on the script. I am now at the point where I need to hear and see this play with other voices than my own.
For this to happen I need to hire 6 actors to do a sit down reading of the play and also begin work shop a few of the scenes. This vital opportunity will lift the characters of the page and hopefully and bring them to life. It will equally give me the chance to edit the script with further voices and characterization.
The money raised will go towards hiring actors that will work with me to read and workshop this play. The creative industries are still in recovery after the long term effects of the pandemic and I want to be able to support the creative arts as much as I possibly can.
