To create a wildflower meadow as a setting for our innovative straw-bale visitor centre and to improve its surroundings for people & nature
Our project: The Bale House Wildflower Meadow
The Friends of Hastings Country Park Nature Reserve want to create a beautiful wildflower meadow in the grounds of the new Bale House Visitor Centre.
Our vision
Meadows are among the UK's most wildlife-rich habitats and also one of the most threatened.
A meadow around the Bale House will:
· provide lots more space for wild plants and insects
· help visitors to appreciate and better understand nature and wildlife in general and the habitats, plants and insects of the Reserve in particular
· be accessible to everyone, a space where anyone can discover nature - or just be in it.
· inspire our local community and visitors from further afield to take action of their own to protect, restore or create wildflower meadows
· and last, but not least, do justice to our innovative visitor centre.
The Bale House Visitor Centre
The Bale House is so named because of its straw-bale construction. Inside, the Bale House is already a great asset for the community and for the cause of conservation. Outside, it is badly let down by its boring and uninspiring grounds which could be anywhere.

Hastings Country Park Nature Reserve
Hastings Country Park Nature Reserve is a really important 345 hectare coastal nature reserve, home to several important habitat types. It is recognised as being regionally, nationally and internationally significant for wildlife.
The Friends of Hastings Country Park Nature Reserve
The Friends of the Reserve comprise more than 250 local people who share a passion for protecting and improving it. Our management committee has a costed plan and future work programme for the project, including maintenance.
To make this happen, we need your help and support.
Please give what you can to help us turn our vision into a wonderful reality - like this.
