Aim

5aSideTheatre need help to raise money for their Edinburgh Fringe show which aims to break down the taboos around mental health.

We are 5aSideTheatre, an all female theatre company based in London. We aim to utilise theatre as a means of breaking down the taboos around mental health. 

We are taking our new show, Beyond the Black Stump written by Hector McCormick, to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2019 for a two week run. In 2018, our debut show, Side Effect, sold out and we raised over £150 for Mind. Please read the synopsis for Beyond the Black Stump below. 

Al is lonely. Not a temporary or recent loneliness, a long slog of loneliness. Al isn’t actually alone how-ever. A therapist come confidant come philosopher called ‘Mouse’ is Al’s only ally. Mouse is just that…a mouse. More accurately a mouse anthropomorphised inside Al’s head. Al has come to rely on the guidance and comfort that Mouse provides but as Al’s world starts to expand there’s less and less room for Mouse…

Beyond the Black Stump explores the effects of loneliness in the big city, exploring themes of isolation and alienation on mental health.

However, we need to raise £2,500 to cover venue hire, production costs and travel expenses. So if you are interested in our project and would like to help us out then please help us reach our target. We would be be extremely grateful no matter ho big or small the donation. Any profits we make will go to a charity. This year we would like to focus on a charity that specialises on mental health and suicide amongst young men.
