Aim: A photo exhibition highlighting the need for greater welfare standards in European zoos
An investigation into European zoos (The Zoo Inquiry) was undertaken by The Born Free Foundation in 2011, and again in 2016. The findings highlighted that many European zoos are keeping their animals in inappropriate conditions.
As part of the latest 2016 investigation, two renowned photographers were commissioned by Born Free to visit a selection of the zoos in Europe. The result was a set of powerful and harrowing photographs which demonstrate the need for greater protection for wild captive animals across Europe.
This year, these photographs will be on display to the public at the ONCA gallery in Brighton, from 21st-23rd July 2017, as part of Born Free’s Beyond the Bars campaign, which seeks to challenge the exploitation of wild animals in captivity.
