Thanks so much to everyone who has pledged so far! As we reached our target it means that we can go into our stretch fund. This means that we will be able to fund towards our summer school taking place in August. It will give us resources to marketing to engage more Black and Asian Minority Ethnic young people and give them a patheay into the company. It will also provide us the opportunity with support for travel expenses to get the young people to rehearsals.
To provide a pathway for Black and Asian young people into theatre and dance in Plymouth.
In 2014 I undertook some research and consultation with Black and Asian young people aged 11-19. All of them expressed the desire for a performance company that would give them the confidence to learn skills in dance and theatre in an environment that feels safe and comfortable. When asked if they thought a company like this would be something they would like to see happen in Plymouth a response was
Part of the project will be that they create and rehearse their own performances as well as introducing them to other opportunities in the city, so they feel that they can integreate with other young people. We will be introducing them to Black and Asian artists in the city and nationally, so that they have role models to aspire to.
The funding will be used to hire rehearsal space for the young people and to be able to take them to see performances within the city.
