Beyoncy recently had a horrific accident and lost her right arm. We want to help her solve her physical issues with a prosthetic arm.

On 3rd June Beyoncy had a horrific accident and lost her right arm. A spinning metal blade from a grass-cutting strimmer flew 35m across our compound, struck Beyoncy, partially severed her arm and damaged her legs. The gardener was trying to fix the machine and had moved it to where he thought it was far from the children but the machine exploded and sent the blade randomly spinning at high speed.
She was rushed to Gulu Hospital in Northern Uganda rapidly losing blood and it soon became clear to the doctors that to save her life her arm would have to be amputated. Her leg damage was not assessed until the last few days and we discovered that she had a tuberosity on her knee caused by the blade's impact. Thankfully this can be operated on, though she will need to be in hospital for a further two weeks.
The hospital in Gulu is a good regional hospital but it is not outfitted for an accident of this significance, so we moved Beyoncy and her family to a new hospital designed for bone work, in Kumi District. They were to work on the the tuberosity and also advise for and fit a mechanical prosthetic arm, which would enable Beyoncy to write with that arm.
Here is a summary of the costs we need to find:
Replenishment of the hospital costs in Gulu - £1000
- food for Beyoncy and her family while in hospital
- cost of private room for two weeks
- cost of operations and medical treatment
Replenishment and estimate of hospital costs in Kumi
- tuberosity operation - £750 PAID
- travel to and from Kumi x 2 - £250 PAID
- Private room, food and other hospital costs for two weeks - £1000
- Cost of a mechanical prosthetic arm and associated services - £4000
TOTAL ESTIMATED COST - £6000
Beyoncy has always been an incredibly talented athlete and has won several championships for women, even as a young girl. She can run every event from 100m to 10,000m and is a good long jumper. The doctors have said she has recovered incredibly well physically from the accident, though of course she still has some trauma. She has so many friends here at school and they have been such a support for her.

This is Beyoncy after one of the cross-country running events.
If you can help towards this goal, then please pledge on this page and we will make sure the money is used to cover her hospital costs and for the new arm. Beyoncy's mother is a subsistence farmer and her father died a couple of years ago. She has two younger brothers who are also talented members of the athletics team.
