Bexhill & Battle Foodbank Summer Picnic Project

Aim

Help us to provide picnic packs to all our families this summer to ensure all children have a good meal despite not being in school.

Established in 2012, the Bexhill and Battle foodbank provided food to 7420 people in 2023, a great many of these were families with school-age children. With the long summer holiday approaching many families will be wondering how they can keep everyone fed without the certainly of a hot school meal.

We can all enjoy a picnic

We want to ease the burden on all our clients by offering an extra bag of picnic provisions (in addition to their regular food parcel), so all the family can have a nutritious and enjoyable lunch together - maybe even outside if the weather is fine!

As well as picnic supplies - sandwich provisions, fresh fruit, cartons of juice, cereal bars etc we want to provide sun cream, sun hats and some fun outdoor toys so the children can all enjoy their time in the sun, getting fresh air and enjoying the many free activities in our local area. 

Family Time & Increased Mental Wellbeing

By providing picnic provisions we will help families to spend time together (no matter the age differences) as they can go somewhere free like the park or the beach and enjoy fresh air and some fun exercise together playing ball games, skipping or having a water fight. We believe this opportunity for families to get outside and spend time together without the worry of how they will afford it will improve mental well-being for adults and children alike.

We've been working closely with our local schools for some time now and many refer clients to us on a regular basis. We also have Summer and Christmas projects to get food, vouchers and other supplies to those identified by the school as being the most in need.
