We are Beverley Mutual Aid, a group of volunteers who felt like our community needed us right now.
At this time of uncertainty, worry & fear about Coronavirus (COVID-19), it is so important that we work together as a community & look after each other. Over the next few days/weeks/months, more and more of us will have to self-isolate whether we show symptoms or not. This group is a platform for anyone in self-isolation to ask for assistance or help. This is a group for those who can offer assistance to those in need to volunteer their time.
Over the past 3 weeks, we have helped over 250 members of our community & have over 400 volunteers signed up.
Ways we have been helping so far include: Picking up & delivering groceries, Fetching prescriptions, Walking someone's dog, Putting the bins out, Having a chat on the phone.
Our aim is help those who are self-isolating to keep their daily routine as much as possible.
If they want the ready meals they always get from Marks & Spencers, we will get them. If they want their favourite magazine, we will find it. We want to keep spirits lifted & help reassure our neighbours that we are here whenever they need anything.
How you can help:
As we know, our most vulnerable are yet again the main target during the pandemic & not just in terms of the effects of the virus. Financially people are struggling with some many facing unemployment. We want to ensure that nobody has to go without food.
Our volunteers often have to pay from their own pocket before they can be reimbursed by the beneficiary for shopping trips. They are using their own petrol to cover these trips & in the weeks to come we want to ensure our volunteers are still & safe as well.
Your donations will not only help those who may be struggling financially to pay for goods but it will support the volunteers as well.
Any donations unspent will be donated to the East Riding Food Bank once this crisis is over.
This is a Mutual Aid group & we want to look after everyone.
