We received the keys to our venue on the 1st of February 2020, and a few weeks later the whole world changed. Despite the global pandemic with works well underway we have progressed to the stage to potentially be able to open our doors this summer. While the news was full of stories of permanent closures, financial hardship, death, and devastation we received incredible encouragement from people who believe in Beresford Lounge's vision.
We gained the support of thousands of amazing people, with almost 20,000 followers across our social media channels and hundreds of purchases of our Founding Membership Scheme. So thank you!

We would like to ask for your support once again for a last great push!
Beresford Lounge is very close to opening and cannot wait to welcome you all! Our team put this crowdfunding campaign together to expedite the opening of our venue by getting the momentum of the people of Glasgow, and further afar!
All funds raised in this campaign will go towards the remaining costs of our refurbishments.
As lockdowns ease around the country, bars and restaurants are excited to welcome customers back who could not wait to finally reunite with their loved ones for a meal or a drink.
We at Beresford Lounge have plans to go above and beyond the normal role of a hospitality venue, to provide even more value for our customers. We strive to create an institution that will become an anchor point for the art and business community in our City.
Beresford Lounge will be offering affordable luxury in the Centre of Glasgow, with quality local ingredients, tailored service, in a glamourous modern art deco atmosphere surrounded by displays from the best local and international artists. We will open our doors in two phases. Phase one will see our Cafe and Bar open and in Phase Two we will open the doors to our multi-purpose event and club space.

In our Cafe, observe the marriage of glamour with the contemporary art of brewing coffee. With healthy all-day breakfast options, alongside a selection of delicious cocktails, there’s something for everyone. Eat-in and enjoy our luxurious, yet informal atmosphere, or takeaway with our sustainable packaging for options on the go.

Take delight in the glamorous art-deco atmosphere of our restaurant and bar, with artworks by renowned local and international artists commissioned for the venue. Our team will create a personalised and tailored service beyond your expectations. Using quality ingredients and locally sourced, fresh produce - our restaurant promises to enchant and dazzle, with seasonal contemporary Scottish and British dishes.

Behind the bar, mixologists will conjure up new concoctions and time-honoured classic cocktails to bring you back to the Golden Age of Glamour. With recipes from our multi-award-winning bartender and mixologist, Jamie MacDonald.

Phase II of our opening will see the creation of a multi-purpose event venue in our basement - The Cult. The concept for Cult is to take our memberships and ethos to the next level. We will create a place where people come together to socialise, celebrate, learn, and even network, embracing these roles in a mischievous and mystical way. We will host events ranging from various club nights focusing on a mix of genres as well as fashion, art, and talent shows; spoken word, slam, and drag nights; cabaret, stand-up comedy, networking, and charity functions.
Plans for phase II are not complete, however in the below image you can see some of the key design elements.

Spirit Of Glasgow, By Catherine Abel
A sleek vision of Glasgow’s past, harmoniously tied to the future through elegant Art Deco design elements and luxurious, streamline detailing – the Beresford Lounge seeks to invite guests into the glamorous world of the roaring twenties, with a modern edge. To truly allow our stunning historic venue to shine, we wanted to commission a remarkable piece of art to act as the crowning jewel of the Beresford Lounge.
Finding an artist who would capture our vision, with the specialised style we were looking for, involved searching far and wide. This was when we discovered the work of globally renowned, Australian artist, Catherine Abel.
We asked Catherine to create a truly spectacular mural; a piece which would celebrate Glasgow’s rich history and culture, whilst taking pride of place as a homage to the Art Deco design within our very own bar. Catherine’s final piece achieved all of this and more, resulting in a modern masterpiece: The Spirit of Glasgow.

Catherine Abel is renowned internationally for her striking figurative oil paintings. Combining the sleek, stylised geometry of the Art Deco period with the clarity, richness of colour, and depth of light of the Italian Renaissance Masters, her works are powerfully seductive compositions of beauty, elegance, strength, and grace.
Self-taught, Abel began painting professionally after moving to Paris in 2000. Influenced greatly by European art and history, she immersed herself in her painting, rapidly building her reputation as a fine art painter. She has exhibited in Australia, France, and the USA and is a sought-after portraitist.
On returning to Australia, Abel has continued to exhibit and sell both locally and internationally. She has been a finalist in the Archibald, Sulman, and Portia Geach Art Prizes, and her works are featured in private collections worldwide.
These days you’ll find Catherine in her light-filled studio in the cool climate of the Central Highlands of Victoria nestled in a village steeped in the history of the gold-rush era. This inspirational part of the world combines the romance of old with a contemporary energy, much like Abel’s work itself.

Print Editions:
Limited Edition or Series Prints
Simply put, a Limited Edition print means that there will only ever be a certain number of prints produced and once they are sold, there won’t be any more available.
When you buy a Limited Edition print it will be signed and numbered on the back of the print. It will also come with a signed certificate of authenticity.
Fine Art Giclee Prints
Giclee is a fine art print made with an inkjet printer. Pronounced, zhee’clay, the word comes from the French, meaning to spray, which is exactly what an inkjet printer does.
The quality of a giclee print is far superior to all other forms of printing. In fact, when done correctly, it’s the closest an artist can get to matching their original artwork. For art lovers who want to collect fine art but can’t afford an original, giclee reproductions are a popular alternative to purchase.
Canvas Prints
Canvas prints are Giclee fine art prints made with an inkjet printer. Please see more on Giclee prints above. Canvas prints match the original work in colour, detail and quality and come varnished, and stretched.
Empire Vision, City Essence, and Working Pride By Calum Stevenson
The elegant design of the Beresford Lounge’s interior and our stunning commission from Catherine Abel both utilise a traditional Art Deco and streamline moderne style; using sleek curves and lines inspired by aerodynamic designs for an ordered aesthetic. When collaborating with Calum, we wanted him to produce something different entirely – a series of artwork that would aesthetically disrupt the orderliness of our space, adding a fresh new perspective, whilst complimenting the rich history and design of the Beresford Lounge, alongside that of Glasgow itself.
Calum delivered all of this and more in his unique oil painting series – including the works “Empire Vision”, “City Essence” and "Working Pride".

A bold, intriguing clash of contemporary photographic elements and traditional oil painting; Calum Stevenson’s work is instantly recognisable and his creations leave a lasting impact within the viewer’s mind.
Born in Falkirk, Stevenson graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Arts from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design in 2019. He then went on to graduate from the Glasgow School of Art with a MA in Fine Art Practice in 2020. Stevenson has been presented with numerous awards throughout the duration of his career thus far, including The Sandra McNeilance Prize for Drawing and Painting.
Stevenson’s creative process is unique in that his oil paintings begin as intricate digital collages, which are then reworked and evolved until he has reached the final, perfect iteration of his chosen compositions. These arrangements are then transformed into physical marvels as Stevenson translates each composition into a detailed oil painting on stretched canvas. Capturing a strong sense of movement and a bold intrigue, Stevenson’s artwork thrives in its complexity and the honed skill of its creator.
As a celebration of the city of Glasgow’s rich culture and the opening of the Beresford Lounge in 2021, Stevenson has created a series of truly unique paintings which reflect both Glasgow’s Art Deco heritage and the vision which encompasses the Beresford Lounge itself. These paintings are available as a limited series of high-quality prints, so you can now enjoy them from the comfort of home – supporting the Beresford Lounge and Scotland’s creative industry. Diamond Founding Members of the Beresford Lounge will also be lucky enough to have a specially commissioned portrait of themselves, or family, created by Calum Stevenson or one of our other featured artists.

Our building represents all that is great about Glasgow and its people — resilience, a welcoming attitude, and a sense of class.

The Beresford Building was originally designed to welcome guests during the 1938 Empire Exhibition, Scotland’s largest event held to date with 12.8 million visitors.

The iconic building was also the location of JFK’s first official address to US citizens representing the United States of America.

This project successfully funded on 22nd July 2021
