🚨 Thanks to the incredible generosity of a supporter every £ donated will be match funded - that means your £30.00 donation will effectively double to £60. I'm truly amazed and grateful for this tremendous show of support through all your donations and this matched funding 🚨
I am fundraising because elections are expensive. We often read about the massive "donations for honours" given to the Conservatives. The Liberal Democrats do not receive donations from big donors or trade unions, so I am building my election fund with the help of my grassroot supporters to be ready whenever Rishi Sunak decides to call the election.
Our constituency has nearly 75,000 voters in 45,000 houses - that's a lot of doors to knock on! We want to ensure we reach as many people as possible with our possible message of hope for North Cornwall's future!
With your donations, we will be able to
- Coordinate teams of brilliant volunteers.
- Drive home our message of change with our campaign literature.
- Build a strong digital campaign to reach all voters, particularly the younger and disenfranchised voters.
- Fund the campaign team working hard in the background to help get me elected as your next MP for North Cornwall.
I was driven to stand because, like you, I fear for the future of our health service and I don't want to be represented by a Conservative MP in Westminster for a moment longer.
We need MPs who understand the challenges people are facing, and will speak up in particular for those who are really struggling in the cost of living crisis.
We need MPs who care about the climate crisis and want to make the serious changes needed to give us the best chance of addressing it. We must protect our natural environment and stop sewage being dumped in our rivers and seas.
We need more MPs who have a wealth of life and career experience in the 'real world' to bring into parliament and stand up for us. Not controlled by special interests but determined to fight for constituents and never take no for an answer.
More about Ben:
Ben is the best local choice having grown up in Withiel near Wadebridge. He joined the North Cornwall Lib Dems aged 18. Ben has extensive professional and international experience but has always put Cornwall first.
Born and brought up in North Cornwall, Ben went to school in Bodmin. His mother was a teacher and his father was a GP in Bodmin for decades, so he is passionate about delivering high quality education and healthcare for North Cornwall. Ben would follow in the Liberal traditions of Pardoe, Tyler and Rogerson - always fighting for local people over petty party politics. Nobody will tell Benedict where to stand or what position to take, he would be an MP for Onen hag Oll – One and All!
2010-2014: Ben campaigned for more affordable housing in North Cornwall and more funding for Cornwall's NHS. Ben worked for a Cornish MP in Parliament helping with constituent casework. Established a Cornish Culture Society for students while at University.
2015: Ben did a research placement in Washington DC for a United States Senator focusing on public healthcare provision and in particular Alzheimer's research.
2016: Ben worked in Hong Kong and campaigned with local people for more democratic voting rights.
2017-2022: Ben completed his legal training in a top UK law firm and campaigned for desperate local families to get urgent maintenance to their damp and moldy homes.
Present: Ben is a qualified employment solicitor in Cornwall helping workers get a fair deal - Ben will always make sure North Cornwall gets a fair deal too.
North Cornwall is on a knife edge between Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives.
There are two choices: either we will get a Conservative MP - and the Government will continue to take our part of Cornwall for granted. Or we will get a Lib Dem MP in Ben Maguire - who will fight everyday to get a fair deal for our communities.
