Beer Men's Shed provides a practical workshop environment for men to meet up, join in and make friends, even in the winter months.
Beer Men's Shed is a male mental health initiative from our local communities. We provide a practical workshop environment where men can meet up, make things and make new friends. We also make, mend and fix things for our local communities, helping men to feel a more useful and valued part of the community that they live in. Giving men a reason to get out in the dark months of winter is a great challenge, and keeping them warm is critical. We aim to provide a "home from home" workshop space where men can feel more enjoyment from their lives.
Adding value to men's lives so that they can also add value to their local community and feel that they belong to it. Whether it's making equipment for a local primary school, building hedgehog houses for the local hedgehog rescue centre or fixing someone's treasured keepsake, we do things for our community that just wouldn't get done otherwise. This improves the quality of living not just for the men who join in Beer Men's Shed but for the communities that they are part of.
We've managed to raise money to build a new, larger and insulated workshop so that more men can come along and join in. Our challenge this winter is to keep our workshop sessions warm, well-lit and safe for everyone, which also encourages more men to come along and join in.
The money that we raise will be used to help towards the cost of electricity, lighting, heating and insurance. This will help us, throughout the winter months, to provide a safe Warm Space where men can come to avoid feeling alone, lonely or isolated and make new friends.
