To embed long term learning, around finances, within our autistic community to give them more independence and their voices to be heard.

Sunbeams has been working with their young adults and late diagnosis adults to give them the skills they need to become financially independent.

To further this work and to better embed their learning Sunbeams would like to employ a person, with a great deal of experience and knowledge of autism, to give group talks and individual one to one sessions around finances.  The aim is to provide our service users with the skills they need to develop their abilities towards more independent living and to give them a voice that will be heard when decisions are made about their futures.

Sunbeams will offer relaxed learning in a safe and inclusive environment where service users feel comfortable and understood.  There will be no pressure and the sessions will be delivered in way that enables all service users to participate.

The sessions will also have support workers attending to ensure that all service users are understanding the learning.  All lessons will be non-compulsory but offered in a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere.

Learning will include:-

What do we mean by financial independence

Why is it important to understand you money

Saving and planning for the future

What is a rainy day fund

The importance of a pension

Life Insurance and its benefits

Budgeting

Online banking

Benefits

Sunbeams will also supply the tools and equipment needed to enable all participants to learn the skills being taught.  Equipment such as a laptop will enable service users with a way to access online banking, benefits and employment opportunities.

This fund will support people within the autistic community to become more independent and give them more power to make choices about their own futures.
