Started on 20th May 2024 Homefield Paddock, Beccles NR34 9NE, UK

I  co-founded and run an organization, First Person Plural, for over 26 years for people with dissociative identity disorder, this sadly closed in 2023. I knew I needed a focus and aim to help me through this time of extreme change. So having long given up all hope of ever achieving a marathon I decided the Beccles Triathlon was just possible with a lot of training.

Early on in my training I realized how much time and effort a 70+ person who has never, ever done anything like this in her life is going to have to put into training so trying to raise some much needed funding for the two organisations that have significant meaning in my life felt just the incentive I needed.

Being a volunteer at the Beccles Hub is so important to me personally. It gives me a place I can use the skills I have accumulated over the years, be with other, lovely volunteers while feeling I am giving something back to the community that has been such an integral part of my life. Knowing that I might just help someone by listening or find a warm winter coat for someone else who otherwise would not be able to have one is so important to me. I get so much more from than I could ever give to this organization while knowing that at the same time we are filling a gap within the community in these tough times.

Parkinsons UK offers reassurance and support for both my husband Terry while we learn how best to manage his own personal journey with this disease. It is a challenge but knowing that research and practical advice are ongoing makes it a little bit easier. They are making some real progress with research, it is exciting but needs to keep the momentum to ensure real success is not too far off.

My grandchildren have informed me they know I will be last, this is offered as reassurance rather than criticism, bless their little cotton socks but I have every intention of finishing whatever it takes and will be very proud to be last!

I know money is so tight for so many but every penny will be used wisely by both these organisations so please if you feel able to sponsor me it would be so very much appreciated. Thank you Melanie
