The sessions aim for people with vision impairments are:

To develop an understanding of the different equipment and products needed and what techniques work best for the individual needs.
To understand the construction and features of your face.
To develop via attending these practical and inclusive sessions, receive constructive feedback and promoting learners to experiment in a safe and supportive environment.
To develop a strong peer to peer support group to give continuous updates and future learning as well as nurturing friendships to those most isolated.
To develop mentors for future and ongoing support opportunities.
What need did this project address and how did it support the need?
Consultation was carried out with our visually impaired service users about what was important to them. One of the issues identified was loss of identity and self-worth after developing sight loss. Women with a vision impairment often said that they lost confidence and struggled with their self-esteem. It was apparent that feeling good with oneself is centred around one’s appearance.
Many stated that the loss of confidence to even try and apply make-up for fear of ‘messing it up’ was a huge factor. Many had not worn make-up for many years since losing their sight, some had never attempted it.
What impact did previous sessions have on people with sight loss?
As an organisation that delivers services to people with a vision impairment, we were not surprised by the speed of which places were filled firstly on the pilot course.
We are extremely proud of the outcomes and believe these comments from learners says it all:
Jane 52 “The sessions have been brilliant, relaxed, fun and a great place to experiment and learn. I feel much more confident going out now”
Emma 31 “I’ve received compliments on the great results which made me feel special”
Fiona 65 “I have always wanted to do a course like this and it has been wonderful to take part. You have given us many tips and tricks and you have been a great facilitator. Well done and thanks so much. With huge thanks for a truly fantastic course”.
Fran 29 “It has changed my world”
How will it deliver sustainable benefit to your beneficiaries?
Our strategy for sustainability is to create make-up champions from these services users to help empower women to deliver further courses and match demand. We want to engage with partners in health/social care to reach as many women of all ages as possible.
This course can and will change lives for the better.
