AN AREA OF OUTSTANDING NATURAL BEAUTY IN THE BEAUTIFUL KENT DOWNS IS UNDER THREAT, IS WORTH FIGHTING FOR AND NEEDS YOUR HELP
Wootton is a small and secluded settlement, located on top of the Kent Downs in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It has existed since before 800AD and the Dooms Day Book and is much loved by walkers, cyclists, nature lovers and residents. But all this is now under threat.
Residents are challenging Dover District Council over its decision to extend the number of days the local motor racing circuit, Lydden Hill Race Circuit, can be in use – from 52 to 364 days a year! Meaning residents must endure an increase in intrusive noise, toxic fumes and extreme night-time light pollution. While residents do not object to the race circuit operating under its current planning conditions, they are fiercely objecting to a 700% increase in its use and what this will mean for residents and visitors to the area who come to enjoy its beauty, tranquillity and wildlife.
Legal advice has been sought and a Judicial Review granted, which is to be heard in the High Court in February 2022.
Residents have worked tirelessly for many years to protect the very tranquil and natural environment of Wootton and surrounding villages. To date £25,000 has been raised but additional funds are urgently required for residents to challenge this decision. Help protect this picturesque and peaceful area for generations of visitors and residents to come from this ruthless, destructive and intrusive development, which has, unbelievably, been sanctioned by the local district council.
Please donate to this campaign and share widely with your family and friends. Wootton is a tiny community fighting a big council and developer and needs the support of others against this ill-conceived development, which should never have been agreed, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
This campaign is supported by the CPRE, the countryside charity. All administrative costs are absorbed by our volunteers so every £ you donate will go directly into our campaign.
