We are looking to raise £3000 to carry out some renovations in our garden that will greatly improve the space for our sprouts! :)
Beansprouts has been open since March 2023 and since then we have loved our garden, but equally we have spent time reflecting on what could make it more useable for our cohort as we meet new sprouts that come through our doors. We are a small space but have tried to utilise our space in the best way possible! Our garden was created with this in mind, and we are so lucky, but now we have been able to sit as a team and think about barriers we face with the space and how we could overcome them with some clever thinking and design.
As a small independent nursery we don't have a lot of leftover income at the end of each month, and we sadly don't have the cashflow to make these changes on our own, but that's where you come in! We will be so grateful for any donations made to help support our project.
Our bottom garden is weatherproof with a beautiful rainbow roof, but there are factors of it that aren't watertight and definitely could be! Our patio above the garden is totally open to the elements which in Summer is okay, but once the rain comes it can cause a bit of a hurdle. One of our lovely Beansprouts parents used to design and build playgrounds so we are in very capable hands. We are also very lucky to be in conversation with members of The Bristol Standard and designing our space alongside the Outdoor Reflective Play and Learning Framework, asking questions such as:
"How do we make sure the outdoor environment is secure, appealing, welcoming, and accessible to all children?"
How can we provide an environment that is rich in opportunities for children’s
problem-solving, scientific exploration, numeracy and reasoning?
---------------------------------------------
We have a number of glorious donations from generous local businesses that you can purchase, or you can simply pop over some £!
We will also be doing a Beansprouts Second Hand Garden Sale on the Sunday 9th of August! 1.30pm - 4.30pm :) We will be opening our garden gates and selling second hand goods, with all the funds raised going towards our garden project.
Any funds we have leftover we will be splitting between Bristol Refugee Rights https://www.bristolrefugeerights.org/ and Mothers for Mothers https://mothersformothers.co.uk/ to help support the amazing work that both organisations do.

Currently we are using canvas sails that are cutting into the garden space and taking up a lot of room that could be used for playing!
Using wooden sheets affixed to the gates to create privacy from the outdoor world, but on the inside of the garden it will have interactive tools for play.
Our shed is a vital part of our storage but without being watertight it's not keeping our buggies or equipment safe from the weather. By making it waterproof we will be able to store everything much more efficiently.
Remove living roof structure and rotten frame and sheets. Replace rotten 4x2 frame with treated timber, fit abutment soaker to side walls with z bar supports, install corner flashing, install breathable Membrane, baton and fit roof solid sheets with foam fillers, install screw caps, silicone joints.
Giving us more storage allows for more flexibility with the space and opens up options on where to keep things, always handy in a small setting!
Fix treated 4x4 to brick walls, create a sloped 4x2 roof with baton and install solid roof sheets, join into existing guttering on pagoda.
A really exciting part of the plan that will make a HUGE difference in our day to day play and learning. Putting a roof on our patio area which will ensure we can use the space whatever the weather. This will be particularly helpful for children with SEND needs as it can be a space away from the main room to regulate.
Construct a frame from 4x4 and 4x2 treated timber to maximise space and support a roof that will enable the area to be used in all weathers as a chill out zone/sleeping area/book reading.
Currently we have a sand pit and a pebble pit but the sand is a clear winner. By introducing a second sand pit the sprouts will have more space to play together.
Construct a wooden removable lid for sand pits, these are to keep the sand safe from local cats! Add more play sand to both pits.
