Beach Guardian Solar Power for Community Building

Aim

We now have the use of this amazing building which has been in existence since 1894. We have a renovation plan and need solar panels.

Who are we?

Beach Guardian CIC is a Community Interest Company based in Cornwall, United Kingdom. Over the years regular beach cleaning has been done to collect and remove rubbish from the beaches; mainly washed up with the tide and mainly plastics from the sea. We now organise community beach cleans and conduct educational workshops with schools and other groups so that we are connecting people with the environment to improve health and wellbeing.

This building gives us the opportunity to host various groups, schools and organisations to engage, educate and empower against plastic pollution. It is an ideal base to be able to walk to the beach to carry out beach cleans.

What do we want to do?

Our community project is committed to being environmentally conscious and installing renewable technology and energy efficiency measures in our endeavour to do so. 

We want to raise £5,000 for a 4kW Hybrid Solar Power Kit with 4.8kWh Battery Storage. Using a Hybrid Solar System, any surplus energy generated from the solar panels during the day will be used to charge the batteries, allowing the use of this energy later in the day when the solar panels aren’t generating. This allows the utilisation of energy generated from the photovoltaic system rather than drawing from the grid during peak times. 

Why we need lots of support!

This Crowdfunder is part of the M&S Energy Community Fund Competition 2019. There are 24 other Community Groups in the competition. An extra £5,000 is awarded to the group who either has the "Most supporters" or has the "Most raised"

Should we be successful in either of those categories then we would be able to obtain a 4kW (4000W) Hybrid Solar Power Kit with 4.8kWh Battery Storage with Adjustable Ground Mounts for our "Beach Guardian Lab" in Padstow which would mean we would be self-sufficient for all of our community workshops and events at both of our locations.
