Aim

Our winter appeal will ensure those who need it most can access healthy, nutritious food this Winter via our Canteens and Food Bus Project.

🐝 Help Be Enriched Feed Families and Keep Communities Warm This Christmas

Across our communities, people are being forced to choose between turning on the heating and eating. At Be Enriched, we’re doing everything we can to make sure our people won’t have to face this winter alone. We’ll be providing safe, warm spaces where people can share a meal, access affordable food, and ensure children have nutritious food to eat during the school holidays.

Winter is a time of severe hardship but also severe waste. The UK throws away more than 9.5 million tonnes of food every year, even as millions of people struggle to afford enough to eat. Last year alone, Be Enriched rescued 4.2 tonnes of good food that would otherwise have gone to landfill, redirecting it into thousands of healthy meals for our Community Canteens and Food Bus customers.

From December through January, our Community Canteens will serve over 1,000 people healthy, home-cooked meals, offering warmth and welcome to those who need it most. Meanwhile, our Food Bus and Food Float will reach 1,200 people across South London, braving the cold, wind and rain to make sure families have access to fresh, affordable food. We will also provide school holiday activities for children who rely on free school meals, offering food, fun, and friendship throughout the festive break.

At our weekly canteens in Tooting, Clapham, and Elephant & Castle, our dedicated volunteers cook and serve three-course meals made from surplus food. Our canteens are open to everyone but particularly support:

  • Elderly residents facing isolation
  • People living with mental health challenges or addiction
  • Disabled people and carers
  • Refugees, asylum seekers, and families on low incomes
  • People with no recourse to public funds

Your support helps us create joyful, inclusive spaces that bring people together, ease pressure on struggling households, and make sure everyone can eat well, keep warm, and feel cared for this winter.

🚍 🍽️ Beyond Christmas Day, Supporting Families All Winter

Our Food Bus team delivers school holiday provisions for children who depend on free school meals, tackling holiday hunger and helping families stretch their budgets. Parents and caregivers can spend the day with us, eating together, joining activities, and connecting with others, without having to heat their homes or use extra electricity and gas. For many, it’s a vital respite from financial and emotional strain, and a reminder that they’re not alone.

Our canteens also continue to operate after the festivities end, offering fuel vouchers to help guests heat their homes and stay safe through the coldest months.

Our Canteens are a lifeline for our guests, we know this because during recent tube strikes, one regular guest cycled two hours to join us, and shared:

“It’s the highlight of my day, I wouldn’t miss it.”

🌟 Why It Matters

In South London, more than two million people live below the poverty line. For many, Christmas is the hardest time of year, cold homes, empty fridges, and too many reasons to stay alone.

According to the food foundations latest Food Insecurity Tracker, nearly six million adults are still struggling to afford healthy, nutritious food across the UK. One in ten households (11.3%) are now experiencing food insecurity, and this rises to almost one in seven households with children (15%).

Your donation helps us fight hunger and loneliness by keeping our warm spaces open, our kitchens busy, and our communities connected.

🗣️ From Our CEO, Kemi Akinola

“Christmas should be a time of joy. Our canteens and Food Bus projects create spaces where people can eat well, stay warm, and connect with others. For families under pressure, this can make all the difference.”

🐝 Can You Bee the Change This Year?

Every little helps, we know times are tough for everyone right now. But your donation will help Londoners eat well, stay warm, and feel part of something special.
