Financially we need to get on the front foot. Help us get ahead of our outgoings so we can concentrate more on developing this great project

The Brighton Community Workshop Project is a not-for-profit, community organisation run entirely by volunteers. We have a tool library and a workshop space. Members can borrow tools, over 1,500 items have been loaned so far saving members almost £115,000! We run maker sessions and workshops, more than 30 sessions so far on all types of crafts and skills. The workshop is also used by anyone wanting to work on their own projects and our volunteers have upcycled and repaired many furniture items, lots of these are street finds, and donations. People on our social media give help and advice to each other and we have a fantastic team of volunteers that try to ensure we are open every day.

We have only been at our current location for just over a year, and if we are going to stay here and continue to develop, we really need some help and support. We are calling this a Booster Appeal. We need a boost of our finances so we can concentrate on developing the workshop space and providing materials for the maker sessions and courses.

Our largest outlay is on rent, and though we have managed to pay all our bills so far it is getting more difficult every month to keep our head above water. We really don't want to be in the position where we will have to shut down. This is a real consequence of not having the funds in place to keep going, we really don't want to be in that position.

We know everyone that has used the tool library, or the workshop, popped in for some help or advice, and all those that we have provided affordable maker sessions to, have, and continue to benefit from this fantastic project. Yes, we need your help with this crowdfund, it will make a real difference, we want to make a real difference for you too. If you have not done so already, please consider becoming a member, please support our crowdfund, and help us to continue to help people in Brighton & Hove MAKE - LEARN - SHARE - REPAIR

The most important thing we need funds for is to help pay the rent. We really do want to have a sustainable model for the Brighton Community Workshop Project, but we always knew we would not be able to achieve this from the start, but we are getting there. These funds will help us get there. While we develop our maker sessions and workshops offer, return more repaired and restored items into circulation, and build on our membership we need a bit of a boost just to help cushion the current situation. We have been at our current location for over a year, and we still do not have any hot water, we need dedicated work stations and benches to maximise space and provide better maker sessions and workshops. Ultimately the Booster Appeal is about getting a bit of a leg up so we can continue with this project by providing alternatives to waste, increasing skills and knowhow, saving users money and space and ultimately building a strong vibrant community of makers, wannabe artisans, artists, fixers, and those that just want to develop skills and knowledge or share what they know with others, this is what we are really all about - Building A Community.
