Aim

We’re raising funds to restore our horticulture area as a climate hub teaching sustainable food growing and biodiversity skills.

Who are we, and what is our project about?

Baycroft School supports SEND children and young people who benefit from practical, skills-based learning. We prepare pupils for life beyond school by developing independence, responsibility and real-world skills.

Our project will restore and strengthen our existing horticulture area as a Climate Action Learning Hub. This space enables pupils to learn sustainable food production, biodiversity protection and environmental responsibility through hands-on experience.

By repairing and improving the area, we will create a safe, accessible environment where pupils grow local produce, reduce food miles, compost organic waste and plant pollinator-friendly species. The project helps young people understand how to prevent environmental harm, prepare for climate challenges and adapt through sustainable living practices.

This is a long-term investment in climate education, community resilience and environmental stewardship.

Why are we crowdfunding?

We are crowdfunding to protect and enhance a space that delivers practical horticultural lessons to children, developing their awareness of environmental factors and set them up for sustainable living.

Over time, the horticulture area has deteriorated and now requires essential repairs. Without funding, pupils risk losing access to a valuable outdoor classroom where they learn sustainable skills that strengthen food security, biodiversity and climate awareness.

Through this project, pupils will:

  • Grow fruit and vegetables locally to reduce food miles

  • Improve soil health and compost organic waste

  • Plant native species to support pollinators

  • Learn water conservation techniques

  • Donate surplus produce to local food banks

This funding ensures we continue equipping young people with the knowledge and skills to respond positively to a changing climate.

How we’ll spend the money raised

We are committed to being open and transparent about how funds will be used. Donations will go directly towards improving safety, accessibility and learning quality within the horticulture area.

Key costs include:

  • Repairs to existing raised beds and structures

  • Replacement of worn or unsafe materials

  • Safe, age-appropriate gardening tools and protective equipment

  • Improvements to pathways, seating and fully accessible working areas

  • Soil, plants, seeds and essential consumables

  • Water conservation equipment

These improvements will ensure the space remains safe, inclusive and fit for long-term educational use.
