Light Up Battle! Join our community appeal to raise £7,000 for permanent Christmas lights
As many of you know, the usual High Street Christmas lights can’t go up this year. The electricity points along the street have been condemned, and fixing them would be too costly and time-consuming before Christmas.
Each year, around £15,000 is spent renting and installing lights — but this year, our community is coming together to do something better. We want to buy our own lights, so that Battle can sparkle every festive season without the ongoing rental cost.
The Battle Chamber of Commerce has already secured Levelling Up funding to purchase 135 metres of lights, but we need another 350 metres to complete both sides of the High Street. That will cost around £7,000.
The new lights will be similar to those in Wadhurst (as shown in the picture in the comments) — running along the sides of the buildings on both sides of the High Street, rather than strung across the road. They’ll create a classic, warm festive glow that can be enjoyed year after year.
It may sound like a lot, but it’s an investment in Battle’s future — lights we’ll own and reuse every Christmas. The High Street will be glowing with a welcoming, festive warmth that everyone in the community helped create.
There are 6,800 residents in Battle, plus many more in nearby villages and communities. If each of us gives what we can — even a small amount — together we can make a big difference. And with the help of our wonderful local businesses, from shops and cafés to trades, services, and home-based enterprises, we’ll reach our target even faster.

If we raise more than £7,000, we’ll be able to extend the lights beyond the High Street into Market Square, Mount Street, Old Lady’s Court, Tills Yard, and other connecting areas — spreading even more festive cheer throughout Battle.

This page has been set up by Battle Town Football Club. As proud members of the local community, we wanted to step up and help — even though we’re not part of the Christmas Committee. We’re doing this because Battle means a lot to us, and we know how much joy the Christmas lights bring to everyone who lives, works, and visits here.
