We will use the extra money to fund an art project to commemorate the The Battle of Holbeck Moor. This will be one of 5 panels of art to commemorate the history of Holbeck.
To commemorate the defeat of Oswald Mosley in trying to have a rally of his supporters in Leeds in 1936, Leeds Stand Up To Racism is working with The Leeds Civic Trust to produce a commemorative Blue Plaque. Mosley was trying to build his fascist organisation, The British Union of Fascists.
When he was banned from marching through the Jewish area of Leeds, Mosley and his supporters marched to Holbeck Moor for their rally. They were massively outnumbered by 30,000 anti fascists who drowned them out and forced Mosley to abandon his rally. He never attempted this again in Leeds. No Pasaran, They shall not pass.
We are delighted to be asked to sponsor a panel of art about the Battle of Holbeck Moor as part of a 5 panel piece about the history of Holbeck.
Thank you for helping us commemorate this important historic event.
