From theatre to fitness, help our charity Battle Memorial Hall go green, cutting carbon, saving energy, and keeping our community thriving.

We are the Trustees of Battle Memorial Hall, a charity devoted to keeping the heart of our town alive. For decades, our Hall has been a place of laughter, creativity, friendship, and remembrance, from theatre productions and cinema nights to art exhibitions, fitness classes, festivals and more. We have wonderful regular hirers who bring in a footfall of 10,000 visitors each year. People from babies to nonagenarians, come together here, forming connections that make our community stronger.
Now, we want to make the Hall comfortable, reliable, and sustainable for generations to come. We’re taking bold Climate Action.
We are raising money to install a renewable heating and cooling system, along with battery storage. This will allow us to use clean energy generated by solar panels through a power purchase agreement with Energise South.
This project is supported by guidance from Energise Sussex Coast, our local not-for-profit energy organisation, and Battle Solar Town, a community-led volunteer group working to ensure that 25% of Battle’s electricity comes from locally generated solar power.
This upgrade will cut carbon emissions, lower our energy costs, and help transform the Hall into a true Resilience Centre, a safe, welcoming place for our community in all circumstances.

Please Help! Our 50-year-old gas boiler is failing. We need a sustainable replacement. Without this, we risk having to cancel many of the activities that bring our town together. Without a system that heats or cools the Hall is not fit for purpose. As BatTS Theatre said: “Summer productions in Victorian costumes were unbearable; a reliable heating and cooling system would let us bring shows back and attract bigger audiences.”
We want to keep the Hall warm, welcoming, and full of life, a place where everyone can meet, celebrate, create, learn and stay active.
Your support will help us keep the heart of Battle beating, ensuring that the floral shows, theatre productions, art exhibitions, fitness classes, festivals, and much more can continue. Every donation brings us closer to a Hall that’s supporting our vision for a healthy, thriving community despite the impacts of Climate Change. We want to create a resilient and sustainable community hub for you which is green, efficient, and ready for the future
How we’ll spend the money raised
We aim to raise £28,000 for Solar batteries, inverters, and a proportion of the cost for a the renewable heating/cooling system. This is part of a £100,000 Energy Project including 70 solar panels which will be financed through a power purchase agreement with Not for Profit Energise South.
This is more than a boiler replacement. Every pound helps reduce carbon emissions, powers the Hall sustainably, and ensures it remains a safe, buzzing, and welcoming hub.
Every Donation has an impact. (Remember to tick if you are a tax payer so we can claim gift aid)
Stretch goal: purchase the solar panels outright to secure long-term savings, keeping hire costs low and enabling even more groups to thrive.
There are three simple ways to get involved and support our project:
1. Make a donation
Every pledge gets us closer to our goal. Early support helps build momentum and inspires others to give too. Donations can be from £5–£250. (Please note that unfortunately the match funding has now come to it's limit - however your donation is still very much appreciated. Thank you)
2. Spread the word
Please share our project with friends, family, neighbours, your hairdresser, barber and anyone who might want to help. The more people we reach, the more likely we are to succeed for the Community.
3. Volunteer with us
If you’d like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch through the ‘Contact’ section using the subject "I want to volunteer my time or expertise" on our project page. Perhaps you are not a heating engineer, however our Hall needs a fresh face lift and you will be very welcome here.
By donating, sharing, or volunteering, you’re not just funding equipment - you are helping keep Battle Memorial Hall a place of laughter, creativity, remembrance, and friendship. Together, we can build a resilient, sustainable, and thriving hub for generations to come. Thank you.
