Aim

To provide Guardian Ballers with a wall mounted basketball goal to help provide training and counselling to young people through basketball.

Who are we?

Bethel Evangelical Church in Coventry supports an amazing local charity and award winner called Guardian Ballers.  Guardian Ballers provide support and counselling to young people at one to one sessions through the game of Basketball in the small hall at Bethel Church.  Some of the young people are referred to Guardian Ballers because of expulsion from school and/or because of behavioural and mental health issues.  Adjacent to the hall where these one to one sessions take place is the church's Oasis Community Hub and Cafe.

Why are we crowdfunding?

As already mentioned Guardian Ballers use the small hall at Bethel church to provide this service to young people.  At the moment they are having to use a bulky mobile basketball goal that has to be moved before and after sessions because the hall is a multi-purpose use space.  The bulky basketball goal is awkward to move, takes up a lot of space and is not height adjustable.  Therefore, we are crowdfunding in order to replace this goal with a wall mounted, adjustable height goal that is flexible in terms of the height and age of the young people taking part.  The new goal can be kept permanently in situ and therefore will not impact other users of the space when counselling/basketball sessions are not taking place.

If you're applying for extra funding, this is a good place to demonstrate why your project is eligible so refer back to the criteria to help complete this section

How we’ll spend the money raised

As mentioned already, the monies raised will be used to purchase and install a new wall mounted basketball goal.  The monies will also fund the delivery cost of the item.  We require at least £1,922, including vat, in order to purchase the goal and have it professionally installed.   Any surplus monies raised will be used to further the amazing work of Guardian Ballers which may include the purchase of equipment such as basket balls and/or offering free additional sessions.

Community impact

Our small hall is also used on Mondays by the Ripple group which is a support group for adults suffereing from serious lung disease.  It is also used on Sundays by the church community and regularly used during church and community events. The young people attending sessions with Guardian Ballers are usually accompanied by a parent/guardian or a social worker and therefore we are pleased to be able to welcome and provide them with a comfortable space in our Oasis Community Hub and Cafe next to the small hall in which to wait whilst the young person is receiving support and training.  We want all our spaces to be multi-purpose so that they can serve and support as many groups and individuals as possible.  We want this to truly be a community space.
