Barnt Green Cricket Club is over a hundred years old. We provide cricket facilities
to play cricket from aged seven to adults for both boys and girls.
We have teams from under eight to under nineteen and then adult teams in the Worcester league and the Birmingham league premier division.
The clubhouse is used by the Barnt Green village as a local village hall for family christenings, birthdays, wakes, meetings etc.
Unfortunately we do not currently have disabled access to the club house.
This is restricting usage to club members and visitors. The croundfunding will enable a new entrance to be constructed, which will enable disabled access plus a disability toilet. These changes will facilitate greater usage of the clubhouse and become more welcoming to the community.
Barnt Green Cricket Club - The next 100 years
The club has continued to make considerable progress both on and off the field in the last 33 seasons.
On the field all senior teams have made great strides over the past 3 decades culminating in 2008 with the club being ranked ECB#1 in the country based upon the playing strength of the 1stXI over the previous decade. In 1989 the senior teams were playing in the 'Wills Carroon' league which was the 2 nd tier of Midlands cricket, the aim at the time was to be invited into the oldest cricket league in the world, the prestigious Birmingham League. The Birmingham league at the time was a 'closed shop' with new entries being by invitation only which in 1995 finally came our way and to much delight the 1 st and 2 nd XI were then included. In a pivotal moment in our history we went on to win the title in our first year and again in 1997. Over the next decade we enjoyed our greatest period of success in our history. A further title in 2005 and two ECB national knockout final appearances at Lords being the highlights. Barnt Green quickly became one the clubs to play for
Today we have successfully maintained our Birmingham League Status (only club to never be relegated from the 1999 pyramid) and in 2022 can boast a 2ndXI that is also playing 1stXI cricket in the Worcestershire league division one. We are now running three senior teams on a Saturday and a development side on a Sunday.
The Junior section has also continued to blossom in the last 30 years. The Junior membership which runs from U9-U19 is now at an impressive 130 members. The list of regional honours it too long to list but the main highlight was the winning of the ECB U15 National Club in 2016. We place a high regard on the development of young people regardless of their ability and as such we have a carefully planned development plan laid out by our Director of Junior Cricket. We offer an all inclusive policy and have varying coaches in place to accommodate all levels of ability.
The disabled access will mean that the clubhouse will become more accessible to not only club members, but the wider community. We will be able to open our doors to everyone and create an inclusive inviting environment.
This crowdfunding project will be a huge benefit to our team, our spectators and our community. Currently the clubhouse cannot accommodate for disabled needs. We need to update the clubhouse urgently and ensure we can invite everyone in.
The croundfunding will enable a new entrance to be constructed, which will enable disabled access plus a disability toilet. These changes will facilitate greater usage of the clubhouse and become more welcoming to the community.
The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games provided a timely boost for highlighting the importance of sport from the physical and mental benefits of diverse and mixed ability broad community participation in various activities, to the nurturing of aspirational sporting performance, to the fun and social bonds created and enhanced by being in and around sport even if just as a spectator giving support and encouragement. For our cricket community this was made extra special with the 2022 Games being on our doorstep and with T20 women's cricket making its debut. In recent years we have seen a steady growth in the number of junior girls and the club's desire to build on the general legacy of the 2022 Games, both in terms of attracting new junior girls and boys and improving standards for existing members, very much depends on a comprehensive upgrade of the club house facilities. This fundraising is required to provide our community with much better access to a comfortable, attractive and genuinely fit for purpose sporting and social facility that will provide a legacy for future generations in and around Barnt Green.
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don't delay if you're going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
