Project Update 1st July 2016
Some really fantastic things have happened to help the project on its way to completion. Firstly, thanks to the generosity of the leasing company Dell Financial Services, we have been given a new buy-out offer that is signifciantly lower than the offer when we started this project. This takes the required total for success down to a much lower level.
We have also been contacted by a donor offering to pay for the costs of shipping the equipment to India, which is wonderfully generous.
Important: although we now need to raise less money to make the project happen, Crowdfunder does not let you change the project's target amount after the project goes live. We will have to continue to show the original £10,158 target, but the new target is now only £7,256. As before, if we raise more than needed, we will use it to buy and send spare parts (cables, chargers, etc) or other reqired items to Barefoot College.
Original Project Information
This is a project to fund the purchase and transport of a set of iPads to benefit the training mission of Barefoot College.
We need to raise just over £10,000 to purchase an available set of over 100 used iPads, test, pack and ship them to India along with some additional accessories such as spare chargers, cables and battery packs.
We need to hit this funding goal by the end of August 2016 if the full project is to go ahead. If we raise more than this goal, the additional money will all be donated to Barefoot College either as money or as equipment relevant to the educational mission of Barefoot College.
If we miss our target, the amount raised will be donated to Barefoot College directly.
About Barefoot College
The Barefoot College trains middle-aged women from rural villages worldwide to become solar engineers.
Trainees are often illiterate or semi-literate grandmothers who maintain strong roots in their villages and play a major role in community development, bringing sustainable electricity to remote, inaccessible villages. Solar electrification reduces CO2 emissions, slow the negative impacts of deforestation and decrease air pollution from burning firewood and kerosene.
