Our new 'Banking on your future' sessions1659355449_educationmain2-1024x267_-_copy.png

‘Banking On Your Future’ is a fun series of money topics looking at 6 key areas of money skills: shopping, earning, budgeting, saving, borrowing and bank accounts. Using shopping as an example we look at smart ways to compare value for money when shopping around; an insight into how much everyday food items cost; hands-on use of real money and the different ways we can pay for items. Students actively interrogate receipts to check they are correct.

We have recently trialed our new 'Banking on your future' classes at a local school and want to develop this further empowering other students and community groups in the area. Since the beginning of the year, post-pandemic, we have restarted visiting our community delivering to year groups and partners.  As we continue to build our partnerships we look to promote and deliver our new Banking On Your Future programme.

Our work is accredited by Young Enterprise & Young Money and our resources are available to teachers and educators nationally. Once this project is complete we will apply for further recognition which in turn will be available for others to access.

The Work Out Your Money project 1659354797_community-500-1024x267.png

The current cost of living crisis is severely impacting on our community already damaged by the pandemic. We have high levels of deprivation in our Borough, six featuring in the 10% most deprived areas of England.

In 2013, Citizens Advice Havant created a highly proactive and innovative local money skills project called Work Out Your Money. Our core services were under pressure with large numbers of clients with often advanced and complex debt issues. We researched conventional debt advice projects but evidenced a lack of success due to a widespread stigma about debt which showed many people would not seek help until their situation became desperate. By being proactive and working with partners and schools we have introduced a programme that can help individuals from primary school through to adulthood. Since its introduction, we have engaged with 4,000 adults and 8,000 young people.
