Aim

We want to enable boys and girls in Bangor to enjoy cricket. Help us to provide the best facilities and equipment for our young cricketers.

Our Club

Despite the challenges of Covid-19, Bangor CC has a thriving youth section, with record membership numbers.  We are a Clubmark accredited (best practice) club and in 2021 we had over 125 boys and girls take part in our youth practice and summer schemes.

We believe that cricket provides a unique opportunity for boys and girls from across the community to enjoy a sport which promotes a strong team ethos and empowers our young players to support each other as they take on new challenges. During the 2021 season we had boys and girls playing cricket across five different age groups. The positive attitude and team culture which we have seen in our young players is truly inspiring.

Why is this important?

Over the last decade there has been a significant decline in cricket being played in Primary and Secondary Schools.  As such, Bangor Cricket Club needs to provide a vibrant youth program to enable the club to develop male and female cricketers and build a sustainable club for the future.

Similar to a number of local sports clubs, we are reliant on people volunteering their services and time to run the club within a relatively modest budget.  We want to grow our youth program in 2022 and provide cricket to more boys and girls than ever before.  To do this we need to recruit more coaches, pay for more coaching courses and buy more cricket equipment.  At the same time we are also determined to keep our membership fees as low as possible, in order to make cricket, and the opportunities it offers, affordable and available to all.

Our Project

Our season starts in April and we are hoping to have over 150 boys and girls playing cricket this summer.  We require your support to ensure we have the best facilities and equipment to support our young players.

Your support will enable us to:

  • Buy suitable bats and balls to ensure that all age groups have the appropriate training equipment;
  • Buy pads, gloves and helmets so that boys and girls can experience cricket without parents having to worry about this expense;
  • Buy best practice coaching aids, such as portable playing surfaces and nets;
  • Train and support coaches to develop and mentor our young players; and
  • Deliver cricket programmes to develop our young cricketers to represent Bangor senior teams in the years to come.

In 2022 we aim to have seven youth teams taking part in NCU competitions, cricket festivals and cricket blitzes. Through our youth programme, we hope boys and girls will continue to develop the values that come through organised sport, whilst building friendships that will last for many years.
