To save the HSBC building and create a 'not for profit', multi-purpose building, to benefit all ages of the community.
(Cymraeg isod)
Banc Ni is a fundraising group of local individuals dedicated to saving the HSBC for arts and cultural use in the community. They are:
Craig Ryder, Dominic Chennell, Elwyn Edwards, Ffion Jones, Karine Décorne and Meirion Davies.
While the original intention was to raise sufficient funds to purchase the building, this has not proved possible in time (final tenders to purchase had to be received 8 September). However, our intention is to work with the new owner to secure some or all of the building for arts and cultural use in the community. We already have an agreement in place with one of the tendering organisations.
In practice, this means we’ll put the funds raised towards the development work necessary to make the building fit for its new use.
A Community Interest Company (CIC) is being created to oversee this development. As as registered non-profit company, it will be impossible to use the funds towards anything other than developing the arts and culture in the HSBC building. Should the CIC be wound up at any point, it must legally pass on any assets to a similar non-profit organisation (a local arts charity, for example). No one can make profit from the company.
Our aim, to begin with, is to save the building. It’s an incredible space which should be open to the public to enjoy. Once we have saved the building, we will then hold a public consultation to listen to YOU, and listen to what YOU would like.
We have many ideas to transform the building… and you can be a part of the process.
One thing that many people won’t be aware of is the huge space on the top floor, way above the room where we have all paid in our hard earned money over the years.
The room is incredible, and you won’t believe it until you see it. One idea would be to create a space where not only local choirs and the Merched y Wawr could meet, but it could also work as a theatre that could rival the likes of Theatr Clwyd and Galeri, and also be a pop-up cinema. Why don’t we call it Theatr Crwst?!
Llanrwst could be a producing theatre with it’s own repertory company. This space could be available and affordable for local companies looking for somewhere professional to perform. Theatr Crwst could attract the touring theatre companies from the big cities. The space is massive – and very exciting!
The building could also be home to a soft play area, and also a dance hall for the local Performing Arts school – The Academy. It could also be used for weddings and other celebratory events.
To summarise, the building could be home to a number of local businesses in the centre of the town, and be an asset to the community and an attraction to tourists. We have lots of ideas to make it sustainable with offices, a place to promote the Welsh language and culture, café, wine bar and performance space.
However, none of these ideas are set in stone – they are constantly developing….
First, we need to save the building from being bought by the corporate giants that won’t give any thought about the community of Llanrwst.
Please help us save this special building….

Rydw i’n aelod o grŵp newydd ei sefydlu o unigolion brwdfrydig sydd eisiau achub adeilad banc HSBC er mwyn creu lle arbennig fydd o fudd i’r gymuned.
‘Banc Ni’ ydy ein henw.
Ein bwriad, yn gyntaf oll, ydy achub yr adeilad. Mae’n lle arbennig a dylai fod ar agor i’r cyhoedd ei fwynhau. Unwaith caiff yr adeilad ei achub, buasem ni yna’n ceisio cynnal ymgynghoriad cyhoeddus er mwyn gwrando arnoch CHI, a chlywed beth sydd arnoch CHI ei eisiau.
Mae gennym ni lawer o syniadau sy’n ymwneud â thrawsnewid yr adeilad yn adeilad amlbwrpas... ac fe allwch chi hefyd fod yn rhan o’r syniadau.
Un peth mae’n debyg sy’n anhysbys i lawer o bobl ydy bod ystafell arbennig iawn wedi’i chuddio ar y llawr uchaf, ymhell uwchben lle’r oeddem ni’n arfer mynd i dalu ein harian gwerthfawr i mewn. Mae’r ystafell mor fawr na choeliwch chi fyth nes ichi ei gweld! Un syniad fyddai creu lle fyddai nid yn unig yn fan cyfarfod i gorau Cymreig a Merched y Wawr, ond hefyd yn gweithio fel theatr fyddai’n cystadlu yn erbyn Theatr Clwyd a Galeri, ac yn gartref i sinema wib. Beth am inni ei alw’n Theatr Crwst?!
Gallai Llanrwst fod â’i theatr cynhyrchu ei hun gyda chwmni sefydlog. Dyma le theatr sy’n barod ac ar gael i’r holl gwmnïau lleol sy’n chwilio am le proffesiynol i berfformio. Gallai Theatr Crwst fod yn fan perfformio fyddai’n denu cwmnïau theatr teithiol o’r dinasoedd mawr. Mae’r lle yn enfawr... ac mae’n hynod o gyffrous!
Gallai’r adeilad fod yn gartref i ardal chwarae meddal a neuadd ddawns i ysgol y celfyddydau perfformio leol, Yr Academi. Gallai hefyd gael ei ddefnyddio ar gyfer priodasau a digwyddiadau dathlu eraill.
I grynhoi, gallai’r adeilad fod yn gartref i nifer o fusnesau yng nghanol y dref fydd o fudd i’r gymuned a’i phobl ac i dwristiaid. Mae gennym ni lawer o syniadau o ran swyddfeydd, rhywle i hyrwyddo’r Iaith Gymraeg, caffi / bar gwin a lle perfformio.
Dydy’r rhain ddim yn syniadau pendant eto – maen nhw’n esblygu o hyd...
Fodd bynnag, yn gyntaf mae angen inni achub yr adeilad rhag iddo gael ei brynu gan gwmni corfforaethol mawr fydd yn poeni dim am bobl Llanrwst.
Helpwch ni achub yr adeilad arbennig hwn...
