I'd like to start a refill shop where people can come and buy store cupboard food items at a cost which is competitive to the supermarkets.
My vision...
The refill shop as a starting point. Ballycruttle Farm was an old mill back in its day and has the most wonderful farm yard buildings and milking parlour. I want to preserve the character of the buildings and provide an environment which is safe for food, and food storage. There isn't alot of work to be done to the buildings but addition of windows and doors.
The shop would supply the local community with store cupboard ingredients and will try and will be a zero waste shopping experience. Bringing your own storage containers will reduce the amount of plastic you bring into your house. It will also free up space in your kitchen cupboards as you are only purchasing quality products which you need!
Phase 2 of the project is to expand into a nearby shed and make a soup kitchen and tea room, using an old horse walk as an outside base to relax with a cup of tea or coffee. Ballycruttle Farm is set in the most beautiful part of South Down and with its tranquil surroundings is the perfect place for some quiet time. I have planted for 2 years now a sunflower field which provides food for the bees, birds and butterflies. You can take a stroll through the yellow giants and see the most colourful dragonflies and inspects, not to mention the toads!
Phase 3 will be working with local schools and starting to build on environmental education and educate with small classes, courses with a classroom which caters for the groups needs.
