Bakewell Swimming Club Rural Levelling Up

Aim

We’re crowdfunding to raise funds for pool hire and club running costs, to help us continue and keep membership fees low, benefitting all.

Who are we?

We are Bakewell Swimming Club run by a group of local volunteers.  We are affiliated to Swim England and have achieved Swim Mark Essential status.  

• We endeavour to provide a fun, safe, friendly, inclusive ‘team-spirit’ and community environment for volunteers and swimmers in Bakewell and rural North Derbyshire to achieve their own personal goals and aspirations. 
•  Providing high quality coaching and access to a competitive performance pathway, enabling swimmers to reach their maximum potential, leading to county, regional and national recognition.

Community Impact

Swimming Pools in Derbyshire Dales remained closed after the Lockdowns had ended due to lack of funding, unlike larger towns and cities where pools re-opened.  Bakewell Pool remained closed for an even longer period.

• Derbyshire Dales was listed in the levelling up agenda due to rural deprivation, where public transport links are poor and funding for facilities such as leisure are focused on larger towns and cities rather than rural areas like Bakewell.  
• Our Club continues to contribute income to the local Leisure Centres and Businesses  in Bakewell.  Whilst providing employment and volunteering opportunities and swimming for children and adults.  
• Promoting intergenerational learning and support and helping to promote physical and mental health and well-being.

Why are we crowdfunding?

Due to the financial impact of Covid and the ongoing Cost of Living Crisis, we are raising funds towards pool hire costs, which have increased and towards our club running costs.  

• This includes funding safeguarding training for volunteers and staff and Coach training course costs.  
• This funding will help us to keep our membership fees low and therefore inclusive for the whole community in this rural area. 
• Improving physical and mental well-being, providing local employment and therefore benefitting the whole local community.

How we’ll spend the money raised

We will spend most of the money raised on pool hire.  Two of the pools we use are operated by Freedom Leisure in Bakewell and Matlock and we are therefore providing them with a regular source of income at a challenging time due to spiralling energy and operating costs.  We will also use the money towards our other club running costs including volunteer and Coach training.

All rewards can be collected from Bakewell Swimming Pool or delivered at any of the Open Meets we attend.  Please contact us to arrange pick up in advance.

There are 3 simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality;

2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.

3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out.
