Baker Street Productions New Project Funding

Aim

We’re raising money to bring 3 dynamic audio productions to your headphones in 2021, and support our up-and-coming generation of creators!

Why now? 

Starting a production company during Covid was brave, but it was also the best thing we could have ever done! The pandemic closed so many doors for new creative voices. Theatres shut, film shoots were restricted; the opportunity to experiment, learn from friends or mentors, and find your inspiration was gone. Just like that. It came at the worst time for those who were about to ‘turn professional’, those who were graduating and those who had just found the confidence to say “I want to do this!”.

However, people in the creative industries have a super-power: we don’t quit. We adapt. In starting Baker Street Productions we have achieved so much with so little, but now we need your help to do even more!

Who are we? 

Baker Street Productions is an audio-production company specialising in scripted podcasts. Like radio plays but more dynamic. We have long loved the audio world - it's the best way to consume content on the go - but we also saw audio as a possible medium to nurture, encourage and support the people who had found the door closing on their ambitions during the pandemic. You can do so much with audio and, in our opinion, there was a gap in the market for podcasts that bring a performance.

What have we achieved already? 

Our first production, Speak of the Devil (which was made on a shoe-string), brought together a group of female writers who had never written for audio before. They created 6 stories about women’s struggles with body image and within male dominated spaces - these are available NOW on Spotify and all good podcast platforms. 

We didn’t stop there! Within 6 months of becoming a registered company, we won our first commission from Reading Council and Historic England. This was to create a scripted audio tour along the Oxford Road in Reading, BUT, to keep things interesting (and because Covid can’t stay forever!), we set the tour as if it was 30 years in the future.  

What do we do differently? 

Our ethos is all about positivity, support and looking to the future. For instance, we structure our projects to include peer-supported writers group’s, because we want to create a community and provide a place to hone your skills and learn from others. 

What are we raising money for? 

In 2021 we want to bring you (at least) three more productions, but for this, we need help! With the very small team that make up BSP, most of whom support themselves with other jobs, applying for funding and approaching investors is taking more time than we have at the moment. As a new company, we also need to prove our worth before we appear as an attractive and viable option for funders. 

At this crucial stage we are asking for your support. With your donations we can deliver three major projects and provide paid opportunities for over 28 emerging creative minds! Every creative future starts with a dream and your investment in Baker Street Productions would allow that future to become reality (while creating innovative and exciting content for you)!
