We need to upgrade our Pavilion to provide changing facilities for girls and upgrade our unsafe nets to make them safer and more inclusive

Underwood Miners Welfare Cricket Club (UMWCC) is a proud non-profit organisation with registered charity status, founded in 1894. Since our beginnings, we’ve called the same ground home — a testament to our strong roots and lasting presence within the local community. Over the years, we’ve been privileged to see several of our players progress to county-level cricket, a reflection of the talent and dedication nurtured within our club.
Like many community clubs, we’ve faced challenges, particularly during times when cricket’s popularity among young people declined. However, thanks to the dedication of our fantastic volunteer coaches and the growing enthusiasm for the sport, UMWCC is thriving once again. We now run a wide range of programs including All Stars, Dynamos, Under 9 (Mixed), Under 11 (Mixed) Incrediball, Under 12 (Mixed), Under 13 (Girls Only), Ladies Softball, and Mixed Senior Sunday teams.
This past season was especially memorable — our Under 11s proudly won their league, and for the first time in 25 years, we fielded an all-girls team (Under 13s) who went on to win their league as well. Presented their trophies by Enid Bakewell. These achievements highlight the passion, teamwork, and community spirit that make UMWCC such a special place to play and belong.

2025 marks an exciting milestone for Underwood Miners Welfare Cricket Club (UMWCC) — the launch of our first-ever ladies’ softball team and, for the first time in 25 years, an all-girls Under 13s team. These achievements reflect the incredible growth of women’s and girls’ cricket within our club and community.
However, this progress has also highlighted an urgent need for change. Our current pavilion, which has served us for decades, is no longer suitable for a modern, inclusive cricket club. With just two small changing rooms shared between men, women, boys, and girls, we do not have the facilities to meet the needs of all our players safely and respectfully. Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club has advised that we must provide separate changing and showering spaces for women and girls — something we are fully committed to achieving.
We are therefore crowdfunding to raise vital funds to upgrade our facilities. In the short term, we need to adapt the current pavilion to make it usable for next season, ensuring our mixed teams can continue to play together. In the longer term, our vision is to create a new pavilion that not only supports all players but also becomes a welcoming hub for the entire community.
In addition, our training nets are now unsafe and unusable for both adults and children, and our limited shower facilities no longer meet safeguarding standards. We are also determined to make our ground more accessible for people with disabilities, as many local residents would love to come and enjoy the game but currently find it too difficult to access.
Your support will help us create a safer, more inclusive, and community-focused environment — ensuring that women and girls, alongside all our members, have equal
opportunities to play, train, and thrive at
UMWCC.
Every pound raised will go directly toward creating a safer, more inclusive, and welcoming environment for everyone at Underwood Miners Welfare Cricket Club.
Our first and most urgent priority is to upgrade our pavilion. At present, we have only two small shared changing rooms, which are no longer suitable or compliant with modern safeguarding standards. These improvements are essential to ensure all players feel comfortable, respected, and valued — and to allow our mixed and female teams to continue next season.
Once those vital upgrades are completed, any additional funds raised will go toward improving the wider club facilities, including:
We have a great deal of work to do before the start of next season, but with your support, we can create a club that truly represents our community — one where women and girls can play alongside everyone else, in a safe and welcoming space that they deserve.

Underwood Miners Welfare Cricket Club has a real opportunity to become a true hub at the heart of our community. Throughout the summer months, our ground is alive with activity — with children, young people, and adults of all ages training, playing, and enjoying the game almost every evening. At weekends, our senior teams take to the field, bringing families, friends, and neighbours together to watch, support, and socialise in a safe, welcoming environment.
By improving our facilities, particularly through the addition of dedicated spaces for women and girls, we can make cricket — and community life — more inclusive than ever before. These changes will allow everyone to take part comfortably and confidently, whether they’re stepping onto the pitch, volunteering, or simply coming along to enjoy the atmosphere.
A modernised pavilion and better facilities will also create new opportunities for community use beyond cricket — from social events and fundraisers to youth and wellbeing activities — strengthening local connections and providing a place that truly belongs to everyone.
Our goal is to ensure that Underwood Miners Welfare Cricket Club continues to grow not just as a cricket club, but as a community space that inspires participation, pride, and belonging for all, especially the women and girls who represent the future of our s
port.
