BA Better World Community Fund has provided £125 of match funding
I am part of BA Does Strictly, and am super excited to be raising money for Flying Start, a great partnership between BA and Comic Relief.
I have been in BA for 11 years and I have seen first hand the good that Flying Start can do.
I was lucky enough to go to Durban to see 2 projects that Flying Start supports. One was a children's radio station that taught them skills in sound engineering and journalism, but also transferrable skills like team work and literacy. The aim was to give kids the skills to see outside of their purview, and give them the confidence to take on new challenges and develop themselves.
The second project was a home for street children, which is a big problem in the Durban area. Here the kids went to school, as well as being homed and fed. There was also counselling and outreach to their families. The aim was to make sure that the children were safe, and to try and get them off the street to a family member if possible.
I know that half of the money raised by Flying Start also goes to projects in the UK, and there are plenty of disadvantaged children and adults who rely on the money raised by Flying Start to really help them out.
