As a school we are striving to lower our carbon footprint and asked the children on the School's eco committee how we might go about this. The children came up with some fabulous ideas and we are now looking to raise funds towards purchasing some vegetable planters and composters so that we can grow some of our own food and compost some of the school's kitchen waste and waste from break-time snacks.
We aim for this project to help the children understand about where their food comes from as they plant and nurture the vegetables from seed.
Food growing can also teach children about soil, nutrition, science and life cycles of the vegetables.
