August Bakery is a new independent bakery coming to Battersea this year that needs your help to raise money for equipment.

On the 20th December 2024 we'd raised £15,240 with 197 supporters in 57 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
We are Harry and Florrie and we are opening August Bakery on Battersea Rise, right next to Clapham Common.
August started out as a micro bakery called Crumbs/Robins Bakery & Provisions, run from our little flat in Putney by Harry. What started as a passion project: a way for Harry to share the love (in the form of delicious bread and pastries) with friends and the local community, grew into a full-time endeavour that saw him delivering bread and pastries all over the South-West London on his cargo bike. As the customer base grew and grew, so did the dreams for what could be possible and he’s been looking for the ideal bricks and mortar site to bring August to life.
Florrie is the business brain behind the bakery. She has years of experience managing people and operations. She’s thrilled that she can finally put all knowledge to good use in pursuit of an endeavour she cares deeply about. She also brings useful wine knowledge to help get our evening events calendar off the ground.
August will be a modern bakery & café that focuses on quality food produced with a sustainable and circular outlook. We will create a glutenous hub for the community, as well as a destination for bread heads from more distant parts of the city. We also plan to host pop-up supper clubs and pizza & wine evenings to make the most of the fantastic space.
We have found a gem of a site at the top of Battersea Rise, on the edge of Clapham Common. Like many people, we feel passionately that South-West London’s postcodes deserve a stronger independent food scene. We want August to a driving force behind that mission.
We hope to open our doors before the end of November, so we can be up and running in time to feed you all with plenty of mince pies over the festive season.
Our People
At August, you will be able to see our wonderful team creating each bake before your eyes in our open-plan kitchen. We think there is no better way for you to see and share in the passion and love that our incredible team has for all of our bakes, sarnies and coffee.
Ingredients
Harry comes from a family of farmers and has a keen understanding of the complexities and nuance that exist within the food chain. Therefore, it’s deeply important to us that we use and advocate for the best ingredients, including organic and regeneratively farmed wheat & dairy, while never preaching or hiding behind empty slogans. Importantly, we shall aim to be a zero-waste bakery, creating compost for our own use from all the food that we cannot reincorporate into our processes.

With your help, we will be able to invest in some crucial bakery equipment including our deck ovens, pastry sheeter and mixers. We will also channel donations into our construction costs and carpentry including a beautiful coffee bar and bread shelving.
FYI. If you choose to donate, please note that the tip to Crowdfunder is OPTIONAL and you are able to reduce this to 0 if you select 'custom amount'. We do not see any of the tip money and already pay a 5% platform fee.
First and foremost, we wanted to offer you the chance to acquire the very thing that we’re planning to sell… Baked Goods! In exchange for your hard-earned money, you will receive BAKERY CREDIT (probably the best kind of credit one could have), on a like for like basis. This will be loaded onto a gift card that you can collect when we open and use at your leisure. We would like as many people as possible to have a stake in the opening of the bakery and feel like this is the best way to do it, while ensuring your generosity is rewarded. Bakery credit can also be used on our merch and retail coffee.
We are also offering some limited sourdough classes to take place in the New Year, some merchandise, and any 'big-hitter' donors will be invited to our Grand Opening Party.
