I am seeking help to pay my daughter's school fees.

  • Hi. If you are here reading this, thank you for visiting this page. My name is Bernadette.

I live with my amazing daughter Anaya who did well in her entrance exams and has been offered a place at an independent school. I am determined for my daughter to attend as it offers an environment where she will flourish. However my fee bursary application was refused due to limited availability.

This is what her present school says about her:

"an excellent pupil, hard working and enthusiastic about her learning. Anaya is a pupil leader and is always proactive in organising events and ensuring pupils are included and their voice is represented. Anaya is a credit to her family who have always been supportive of her education and nurtured her to be aspirational and aim high. She is bright and has many positive qualities and displays a high level of maturity and awareness of the needs of those around her. Her peers respect her and she is popular with them. Anaya is academic and a well-grounded young lady who enjoys taking up all new opportunities presented to her."

I have worked extremely hard to try and improve the lives of myself and my beloved daughter. When Anaya turned two I went back to university. I achieved an upper second class law degree with honors. I am so proud of that achievement as it was during my final year we were made homeless due to the landlord’s property being threatened with repossession. My university suggested I defer for a year but I refused. I continued studying, working part time as a London bus driver whilst raising my daughter single handedly. Giving up was not an option. I became the first ever recipient of the Nardell Prize for Special Achievement in recognition of the sheer determination and resilience demonstrated in completing the law degree.

My daughter watched me struggle, witnessed the nights I spent studying, the days I never slept. It was and is vital that I, her role model, instill in her a good work ethic and a can do attitude as well as to never give up. I am now working as a paralegal and aim to start on the next phase to becoming a qualified solicitor. The dream only dies when you stop.

I am, at present, unable to meet the financial cost of her schooling which is:

Cost per term: £5557 per term

    Cost per year: £16671

My daughter cannot take up her place at the independent school WITHOUT your support. Family and friends are supporting me to change Anaya’s life..to change her story from the colonial lives of her grandparents in Jamaica, to the life of her struggling mother in England to the leader and creator she can become.

I would be sincerely grateful for any help, be it financial or sharing this link. Your contribution will make a difference to this amazing and talented daughter of mine on her exciting and fascinating journey of life! Thank you.
