Aim

Our changing room showers need replaced, at the same time we are looking to install a more efficient, ecofriendly system

Who are we?

Ashington Joint Welfare Rugby Football Club has been operating for over 100 years, being founded in 1922.

Briefly we enable residents of South East Northumberland the opportunity to partake in playing and training of Rugby Football and the social and other benefits which come with the sport. We aim to provide facilities on a low cost basis to ensure that all local residents can participate and no-one is excluded due to cost.

We provide facilities for all age groups, male and female adults from aged 18 to 70+ and children from aged 6 to 18 years of age. All internal coaching and team management is run on a voluntary basis. In addition this year the Club has funded a School Development Officer to go into local schools in Ashington, Bedlington, Newbiggin, Choppington and surrounding areas, with the aim of introducing rugby to children and getting them along to our Club to develop their fitness and skills and enjoy the social interaction and team sport, while at the same time growing our numbers.

We also provide facilities for a local cricket team running 3 senior men’s teams, junior cricket and a recently introduced ladies team, two local football teams, Green Lane Disabled and Abled Bodied Archery Club, Hirst Running Club and other users on an ad hoc basis.

Our grounds covering approximately 13 acres and our Clubhouse and Changing Rooms are all maintained by volunteers, however we do have annual ground maintenance carried out by a local business at a considerable cost to our Club.

Why are we crowdfunding?

This is where you should explain the reason you need to raise money, are you launching a new women's team? Perhaps you need to improve facilities or buy new kit? Tell us here.

Our changing room showers are serviced by two aged water heaters, one of which has recently been condemned, (the other is the same age and has had the same use and we expect this to fail at any time). Additionally we have a large water tank in the rafters of the changing rooms which we have been told to replace during a recent legionnaires disease risk report we instructed Northumbria Water to carry out. Replacing this would involve removing roof trusses to install a new tank at a considerable cost. We have quotes for a new system replacing the heaters and not needing a water tank at a cost of circa £32382 including VAT which we are unable to recover due to the fact they are in changing rooms. The new system will be more efficient and ecologically friendly and will hopefully reduce our running costs on an annual basis. Without the replacement system we will be unable to offer showering facilities and may be forced to close the whole Club down

If you're applying for extra funding, this is a good place to demonstrate why your project is eligible so refer back to the criteria to help complete this section

How we’ll spend the money raised

It’s important to be transparent about how you plan to spend the money you raise. Your audience will be more likely to make a pledge if they can see how their donation will help. Be specific and add a budget breakdown.

All funds received will be used to replace the water heating system in our changing rooms at a total cost of £32,382

Community impact

It’s important to explain the wider impact of your organisation for the whole community, who does it benefit and why? Perhaps your facilities are used for other purposes outside of sport too?

As mentioned above as well as providing facilities for rugby, we facilitate cricket, football archery and a running club. Without the changing rooms and showering facilities we may be forced to close down, depriving the whole community of Ashington and the surrounding area the benefit of the facilities we have to offer
