ASCape hopes to offer "MidiMusicMakers": a series of monthly music making workshops for Autistic and socially anxious children aged 9-12

Project by ASCAPE

ASCape supports Autistic and socially anxious children and young adults and their families in West Dorset.

The young people that we support have a wide range of challenges that can make it difficult for them to access activities at school and social activities outside school. Our innovative projects directly address the growing social and mental health issues faced by autistic children and young people.

Since 2023 we have been running MiniMusicMakers: monthly music production workshops for Autistic children aged 4-8 to attend with their parents/carers. We have seen the children gain in confidence both musically and socially.

One parent said of MiniMusicMakers: "Gary was so chilled out and happy to let the kids explore and experience the instruments, it was fantastic and made me as a parent, able to feel relaxed."

Responding to demand from the ASCape community, MidiMusicMakers will extend our music provision to children aged 9-12. Gary Pickard, of YouDoMusic, and James Channing, a B Sharp Young Music Leader, will guide the children to compose, record and edit original music compositions in an inclusive, low demand environment.
