Aim

The money will allow us to continue to provide our free service to our clients who are all at highest risk from Covid-19.

Yorkshire and Humberside Asbestos Support Group provides help, information, advice, advocacy and support to people  throughout Yorkshire , Humberside and North Nottinghamshire, that are affected by asbestos related diseases; this support also extends to family members.  Our workers are very experienced in supporting people who have been diagnosed with mesothelioma, Asbestos related lung cancer and other asbestos-related diseases. We have been operating since 1995 and understand the impact such diseases have on individuals and their families, both physically and psychologically.  Our welfare rights workers are extremely knowledgeable about benefit entitlements and compensation schemes and will complete claims for a wide range of benefits and provide advice and information about free legal advice and help that's available from lawyers who are experts in dealing with asbestos disease claims.. We offer home visits for people and we can also provide assistance by telephone.  Home visits are currently suspended due to restrictions imposed around COVID-19 and the safety of our clients, however our work is continuing via telephone and the internet.

We also campaign about issues affecting asbestos victims and the continuing hazards of asbestos, together with other asbestos victims support groups in the Asbestos Victims Support Group Forum-UK .

We arrange different support events throughout the year and also have monthly meetings, that everyone is most welcome to attend.  Events that we had planned have had to be cancelled/suspended but we aim to have these back up and running as soon as it is considered safe to do so.

Many of our clients are often isolated due to their aggressive terminal condition.  In 2019 we arranged a boat trip, which proved to be an effective way of providing them with the opportunity to enjoy an away day, socialise and gain support.  We would like to be able to extend this opportunity to more clients throughout the region we cover.

Every £20 that we receive will go towards the cost of the boat hire and lunch, allowing our clients to spend some valuable, quality time together and continue to make memories .
