The Project
My name is Andres Jaroslavsky, owner of Corner Studio (www.yorkcornerstudio.com), and I am committed to creating a vibrant Community Art Studio that offers professional tuition in Painting and Drawing.
This project aims to build an inspiring space where artists of all levels can learn, grow, and connect.
In 2009, I completed my PGCE (Open University), and in 2010, I opened Corner Studio in York. In August 2014, I completed my MA in Creative Practice at the Leeds University of Art with distinction. Shortly after, my painting “Madres” won the Yorkshire Art Journal competition, and from 2014 to 2016, I worked as an associate lecturer at Leeds College of Art.
For the last 12 years, I've been teaching Painting, Drawing, and Life Drawing in Leeds, Harrogate, and York. I've taught in community centres, cramped studios, and, finally, in a tiny extension of my house.
In January 2024, I bought a disused chapel—an empty space without water or a toilet! And now, with over 30 years of experience in education and a deep passion for teaching and artistic expression, I am embarking on this project to create a larger, purpose-built studio.
The Prizes
To raise funds for this building project, I am holding a draw with FIVE exciting prizes:
First Prize: Free weekly art lessons in Painting, Drawing, or Life Drawing for a year. All materials included, plus complimentary teas and coffees!
Second Prize: An original painting!
Third Prize: A custom portrait of your chosen subject!
Fourth Prize: A golden ticket! One of ten places for an exclusive preview at the new premises: a VIP workshop at the newly opened studio featuring an amazing model. All materials included, plus a great lunch and a little concert at the end!
Fifth Prize: Breakfast for two at "ALMA Cafe & Gifts" (www.almacafeandgifts.com), plus dinner for two at "Il Paradiso Del Cibo da Paolo" (www.paradisodelcibo.uk).
The Project
This new space will serve as a hub for creativity and learning while also significantly contributing to community engagement.
The funds will be allocated towards essential infrastructure development, including the installation of a septic tank, water connection, storage space for materials, toilet, kitchenette and so on. The incorporation of a free community arts library will ensure that resources are available to all.
The new studio, located in Stillingfleet on the outskirts of York, will offer accessibility to students from a wide geographical area, including Selby, Leeds, Harrogate, Hull, and beyond. Outside of regular studio hours, this space will be available to community groups such as choirs, book clubs, charities and so on.
I will personally get involved with charities providing arts education opportunities to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
