Art in Motion (AIM) is a disability led arts organisation based in Bristol, working alongside learning-disabled and neurodivergent artists to create ambitious, original work, develop their creative practice, and share their work with wider audiences.
AIM provides opportunities for artists to develop skills, knowledge and creativity through a range of artist-led projects, shared with the public through exhibitions, partnerships, public showcases and creative collaborations. Our work includes supported studio space, artist development programmes, workshops, exhibitions and networking opportunities.
We exist to help build a more inclusive and representative arts community. AIM supports artists who face disabling barriers to develop and sustain their practice, access meaningful opportunities and grow in confidence, visibility and ambition over time.
Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. The artists we work with actively shape what happens in the studio, from the projects we develop to the skills we explore and the ways in which work is shared with the public. This shared ownership helps create a space that is responsive, empowering and rooted in lived experience.
Developing partnerships has been an important part of AIM’s journey in developing positive partnerships and opening the doors to greater opportunities and inclusivity. In October 2025, we relocated our artist studios to Arnolfini as Artists in Residence, marking a significant new chapter in our development. This move brings our artists into a leading contemporary arts environment where they can create, collaborate and connect with visitors, artists and the wider cultural sector.
From our studio base, we run a weekly Art School programme, artist groups and a creative writing group, creating space for artists to explore different approaches to making art, develop new skills, respond to exhibitions and share their work and ideas with others.
At the heart of AIM’s work is a belief that the arts should reflect the richness and complexity of all communities. We are committed to breaking down the physical, social and institutional barriers that have too often excluded disabled artists from fully participating in cultural life.
