Aim

I need your help to raise £1000 towards shipping donations to disadvantaged children at the Arise and Shine Hope Centre, Johannesburg.

I am a South African born Poet and Storyteller and I have undertaken the challenge upon myself to organise an event for  #MandelaCentenary.  The event went well and local people took part to celebrate the life of Mandela and support me.

Recently we held a Gala Dinner which raised £200 in raffle tickets from those that attended towards this project. My chosen cause for the gala is,'Arise and Shine,’ (ASHC) which is located in the South of Johannesburg in Freedom Park (Devland).

The area is in an informal settlement where poverty and unemployment are of high rate. The community has economic, health-related and psycho-social challenges that make the children become vulnerable. They have children who come from child-headed homes, and children experiencing poverty because their Parents/Guardians depending on a government grant.

The organisation deals with Orphans and Vulnerable Children and are a fully   independent child protection organisation. The project started in 2005 by Noah, whereby they came to the community to help us care for our orphans. The project started with an Aftercare Programme and in 2007 proceeded with a Day care, known as ECD (Early Childhood Development) Programme. The organization is registered under NPO Arise and Shine Hope Centre, and is currently running with donations in kind.

The children need items and our donations to give them a good start in life at school. Mandela recognized education as a great vehicle to bring equality of opportunity to the world and in the word of Mandela, he said,

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."

I know my life would not be complete with out books and I would like to give these children the same opportunity in life.

‘A reading child is a thinking child. I believe that we all have a part to play in creating a better society.’

I want to give not just money, but books and items that help them go to school which will raise their literacy skills. I have collected clothes, toys, stationery and school uniforms from many kind people to help them. Now I need your help to support the costs to ship these items to Johannesburg.

I want to make a difference in people's lives and I want to give not just money, but the chance to read books and have the education they deserve.  I believe that we all have a part to play in creating a better society.

Please could you help me raise £1000 for the container of all the donations to be shipped to Johannesburg.  My friends, colleagues and even strangers are giving me things to collect and I need to get these away in September.  Your help is appreciated in giving these children a chance in life.  Thank you! Dankie!
