The Cause
Almost a year ago my Mum, Aideen, collapsed at home as a result of a ruptured Aneurysm. Luckily, my Mum’s Apple Watch registered the fall and contacted the emergency services who were there within half an hour. My whole family and I are very aware of how vital it was that Mum was found and treated so quickly. We are also incredibly grateful for the treatment she received at every point during her recovery; the Police who acted quickly to get into the house, the Paramedics who treated mum at home and transported her to the hospital and The Doctors and Nurses in the emergency department in the Causeway Hospital who in what for me felt like a completely chaotic experience acted with a calmness and diligence that I have never seen before. Mum was transported to the Royal Victoria Hospital for emergency surgery and after a few days in ICU, spent almost 6 weeks on Ward 4F Neurosurgery before eventually being moved to the Regional Acquired Brain Injury Unit (RABIU) in Musgrave where she spent a further 12 weeks. I cannot put into words the gratitude I have for All the staff on Ward 4F and in RABIU. They ensured Mum made the best possible recovery, and their dedication to the patients is truly incredible.
As a way to show my gratitude and help in a small way to ensure that they can continue in all that they do for their patients, I have set-up a CrowdFunder page (link below) with all proceeds being donated 50/50 to Ward 4F in the RVH Belfast and RABIU Musgrave.
