I am raising money for the Menstrual Health and Feminine Hygiene Campaign to help keep girls in school in rural Zimbabwe.
In aid of Love Zimbabwe, I will be running the Bath Half Marathon on the 15th of October 2023. I am raising funds for the Menstrual Health Campaign, which employs mothers at the Chinamhora Community Centre in rural Zimbabwe to sew sustainable menstrual products made from organic cotton for women and girls. Additionally, the community centre hosts workshops to educate the public about menstruation.
In rural Zimbabwe, many women and girls do not have access to sanitary products and are affected by period poverty. Cultural taboos and secrecy surrounding menstrual health leave school girls feeling confused and embarrassed because they are unable to discuss the change in their bodies. This often results in girls avoiding contact with the public or not going to school. With a lack of sanitary products, many girls use rags, cloth, plants and even cow dung, putting them at risk of infections and health problems.
Love Zimbabwe is an amazing charity to support because it partners with Chinamhora Community Centre to create opportunities for sustainable living. I am very passionate about their mission and the work they do to aid women and girls in rural Zimbabwe. Over the last six years, I have seen the positive impact of the projects they have introduced in the community. Your donations would be greatly appreciated.
