The Haven CIC is a safe space for people to socialise, learn, develop and relax in the company of animals and like-minded people.
The Island Community Haven is a Community Interest Company (CIC) that is powered by community spirit and a passion for animal welfare.
The farm currently houses various animals on our 3-acre farm space in Draycott, Derby. Each animal has its own amazing story of how it came to live at the farm and how they are thriving today. By helping, not only do you become part of their story, but you become part of our community.
Alongside our animal sanctuary, the Haven offers other services such as alternative provision, summer schemes, youth clubs and weekly community meet-ups.

Animal Welfare Meetups
Community action is a great way to meet like-minded people whilst supporting a valuable cause. It’s human nature to feel good when helping out. Sessions are held weekly – no experience is required, just a can-do attitude.
Community Gardening Sessions
The Haven has several allotment areas that are accessed by people who are passionate about learning how to grow your own food. No prior experience is necessary – check our dates for upcoming sessions.
Youth Club
The benefits of being around animals and nature in a therapeutic environment are well-documented for improving well-being. We hope to inspire social intelligence, emotional resilience as well as a thirst for academic knowledge.
Alternative Education
Animal-assisted learning & outside the classroom-based sessions are helping some of Derby & Nottingham’s most complex young people.
Workshops
The project has successfully delivered free workshops to the public to help raise awareness about growing your own food, reconnecting with nature and developing basic hand tool skills. Workshops are ongoing so please subscribe to our newsletter and follow us on social media to keep up-to-date.
